Wishing everyone a happy Chanukah!
It is very interesting to note that the only holiday that we publicly publicize the miracles that occurred to us is Chanukah. The jewish people have experienced many miracles and salvations. Purim we celebrate the miraculous nullification of Haman's decree to annihilate all the Jewish people. On Pesach we celebrate the miraculous liberation from slavery in Egypt. But we do not publicize to the outside world these miracles.
only on Chanukah we publicize the miracles to the outside world, in public places. Why?
Because the battle of Chanukah was because the Greeks tried to destroy the Torah and our connection to it. And therefore we publicize the miracle of our Torah. We publicize the miracle of being able to keep our holy Torah. Torah is light. And the light of Chanukah reminds us of the light of the Torah.
Chanukah is also connected to Moshiach and hidden inside the chanukah lights is a special light: the light from the first three days of creation; light that Hashem hid away on the fourth day when He created the luminaries (the sun, moon and stars). And when we look at the Chanukah lights, we connect to that hidden light, which then brings out a deeper level of faith within us.
The Chanukah candles bring about miracles for us and while the lights are lit, it is an auspicious time to sit by the lights and pray for healthy, for parnassa (livelihood), for shidduchim , for shalom bayit and for children etc.
May all our prayers be answered for the good and especially the most important prayer of all: for the redemption through Moshiach tzidkenu.
may we merit to very soon kindle the Chanukah lights in the third beis hamikdash!
